Metro Reduced Fare Permit for Seniors

About the Metro Reduced Fare Permit

Missouri residents age 65 and over have the privilege of riding the MetroLink and MetroBus for a reduced fare of half the price of a regular ticket. Effective January 1, 2009, every senior wanting to take advantage of this discount will need a special Metro Reduced Fare Permit. The Metro Reduced Fare Permit was introduced to provide added convenience and minimize confusion for seniors and for Metro transit operators and fare inspectors.

Requirements

The Metro Reduced Fare Permit is available to any Missouri Senior age 65 and older. Seniors from other states (or from Illinois other than Madison County and townships which are part of the St. Clair County Transit District) are also eligible for this Permit.  Because a photo is taken as part of the process to generate the Permit, seniors must apply in person. They will need to present a government-issued picture identification card which verifies their age. Drivers License, State ID card, Alien Registration Card or Passport are all acceptable forms of ID. Effective January 1, 2009, seniors age 65 and older will simply need to show their Metro Reduced Fare Permit as proof of their eligibility to ride the Metro System for the reduced fare.

Making it Easy for Seniors to Obtain

Metro is committed to making it as easy as possible for seniors to obtain their Metro Reduced Fare Permit. To that end, the Agency reached out to senior service agencies, retirement communities and other locations frequented by seniors to host sign-up events. With today’s high gas prices, it’s also possible that many other seniors who haven’t traditionally been Metro riders may take advantage of the opportunity to secure the Metro Reduced Fare Permit so they, too, can take advantage of the reduced fare to travel throughout the region.

Seniors can sign up for the card Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Downtown MetroRide Store located at 701 Convention Plaza, St. Louis Missouri 63101 at the corner of 7th and Washington (inside America’s Center at the Convention Center MetroLink Station).  .

Seniors can also sign up for the card Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at the Metro Transit Access Center located at 317 DeBaliviere Ave., located within a short walk from the Forest Park-DeBaliviere MetroLink Station.

NOTE:   Those 65 and over living in Madison County and selected townships in St. Clair County ride Metro for free with their Senior Pass, thanks to special transit funding provided by the State of Illinois.

NOTE:  Separate Program for Individuals with Disabilities:  Metro also offers reduced fare rates to qualified individuals with disabilities who wish to use MetroBus and MetroLink services.  These individuals must have a Fixed Route Reduced Fare Permit.  Additionally, Metro Call-A-Ride services are available to individuals with disabilites who are unable to use the available MetroBus and MetroLink services.  These individuals must have an ADA Paratransit Reduced Fare Permit.  An individual with a disability who is also a senior and only uses MetroBus or MetroLink may obtain and use the Metro Reduced Fare Permit for Seniors.  Metro's ADA Services department must determine eligibility for Fixed Route or ADA Paratransit Reduced Fare Permits for customers who have not yet reached the age of 65. These two types of permits are not available at the Downtown MetroRide Store.  For information or to request an application, please call the Metro Transit Access Center at (314) 982-1510.
