Community Art Initiatives – Washington Park

Washington Park selected a Welcome Mat design rich in associations. When the artist first embarked on research for the design, she found any recorded history of Washington Park had been lost years ago. Discussions she had with local residents, civic and business leaders of the area, helped her to focus on the revitalization of the community, symbolized by the hands and ivy. The design includes references to the town's strong civic foundation, with the sun and moon symbolizing community harmony. Design by Edna Patterson-Petty.
