Rampage, the mascot of the St. Louis Rams, has fun wherever he goes and he will be spreading holiday cheer Thursday, December 20 at 5 p.m. among Metro Transit customers at the Brentwood
I-64 MetroLink Station. Rampage will brighten the holidays for transit commuters by posing for pictures with fans and handing out autograph cards and Rams wristbands. And that’s not all-- Rampage will give one lucky customer a Metro monthly transit pass.

Metro Transit will supplement MetroBus service in the area of the Grand Center as well as operate extended MetroLink service on New Year’s Eve in conjunction with First Night in St. Louis. First Night visitors can utilize the #70 Grand MetroBus route from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 31 to get to the First Night festivities. Starting at 7 p.m., shuttle buses will run every 10 minutes between the Scott Avenue Transit Plaza (lower level) at the Grand MetroLink Station and the designated First Night shuttle stop at the Scottish Rite Auditorium on Lindell west of Grand Boulevard. Regular Metro tickets, passes, transfers and cash fares will be accepted.

Work is scheduled on the MetroLink system this week tonight through Thursday (December 17-20) and some passengers may experience delays in the work zones. The affected areas of the MetroLink system are:

• College MetroLink Station
• Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station
• Central West End MetroLink Station
• Grand MetroLink Station

The New Year will bring an important, new change for Metro Transit customers. All MetroLink tickets and 2-hour passes will have to be validated by customers prior to boarding the train starting January 7, 2013. To prepare customers for the change, Metro volunteer Ambassadors will hand out information at several MetroLink stations during the peak morning and afternoon commutes next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (December 17, 18, and 19). The Ambassadors will be at North Hanley, Civic Center, Central West End, St. Charles Rock Road, Shrewsbury, Belleville, Delmar Loop, 5th & Missouri, and Emerson Park from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Ambassadors will also assist customers at those stations on January 7 when the validation change goes into effect.

Metro Transit in St. Louis once again led the nation with the largest increase in bus ridership among large transit agencies. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), Metro Transit saw an 8.55 percent increase in bus ridership from January to September of this year. MetroBus recorded 22 million boardings as compared to 20.3 million MetroBus boardings during the first three quarters in 2011. Metro also led the nation for the first quarter of this calendar year with a 15.6 percent increase in bus ridership for January, February, and March.

Metro Transit’s holiday music series kicks into full gear this week with live performances tomorrow (Dec. 7) at the Belleville MetroLink Station and the first onboard concert of the season is Saturday (Dec. 8) on the MetroLink Blue Line.
