Transit Accessibility: Advisory Committee

We are excited to share that we received over 175 Statements of Interest from people with disabilities and older adults who are interested in participating in our Transit Accessibility Advisory Committee.

If you submitted a Statement of Interest, we will contact you in early October to let you know the status of your Statement. Even if you are not selected to serve on the Committee, please know that you are still welcome to attend the meetings.

About the Committee

The Accessibility Advisory Committee will address issues of accessibility for all of Metro Transit’s service modes (MetroBus, MetroLink, Metro Call‑A‑Ride, Via Metro St. Louis). Our mission is to cultivate accessibility, usability, and inclusion through effective relationships between people of all abilities and Metro.

Who can be a St Louis Metro Transit Accessibility Advisory Committee member?

  • A person with a disability or an older adult who uses Metro Transit (Direct User of Metro Services)
  • A family member or caregiver of a Direct User of Metro Services
  • A professional/volunteer in the field of disability or aging services who works with Direct Users of Metro Services
  • An employer of people with disabilities or older adults who are Direct Users of Metro Services

What are the goals of the Inaugural St. Louis Metro Transit Access Advisory Committee?

  • Establish Governance (By-Laws, Charter, Name, etc.)
  • Identify solutions-focused subcommittees that will address two high-priority topics that reflect concerns expressed by the community and/or Metro Transit.

What are the expectations of someone serving on the St Louis Metro Transit Accessibility Advisory Committee?

  • Attend meetings regularly either in-person or by zoom (At least 4 of 6 regular meetings per year)  
  • Come prepared to participate 
  • Serve in a leadership position or on a subcommittee which may require more meeting times 
  • Educate other disability community members on initiatives and activities involving Metro Transit 
  • Share personal experience with the committee  
  • Commit to a 2- or 3-year term of service

What are the benefits or reasons to serve on the St Louis Metro Transit Accessibility Advisory Committee?

  • Be a bridge for communication between the community and Metro Transit
  • Shape the future for more usable and accessible transit programs and services
  • Solidify partnerships with organizations in St. Louis Metro region

Metro Transit will provide training on public transportation requirements under the ADA and other applicable regulations and board membership requirements/duties. Transportation to and from meetings as well as reasonable accommodations will be provided. Meetings will be hybrid, which means in-person with a choice to attend virtually via Zoom.

How will I know if I am selected to serve on this committee?

If selected to serve on the committee, you will be notified by October 10th. The first committee meeting will be in the first week of November.
