Weekly Single Track Schedule

Blue Line trains will only operate between the Shrewsbury-Lansdowne I-44 and Forest Park-DeBaliviere Stations during scheduled single-track operations listed above. MetroLink customers will need to transfer between Blue Line and Red Line trains at the Forest Park Station.

  • Westbound Blue Line passengers will need to board a Red Line train between the Fairview Heights and Central West End MetroLink Stations, and travel to the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station to transfer to a Blue Line train and continue their westbound trips.
  • Eastbound Blue Line passengers will need to transfer to a Red Line train at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station to continue their eastbound trips.
  • Red Line MetroLink passengers may experience delays of 5 minutes.
  • Passengers should allow extra time when transferring between Red Line and Blue Line.

An option for Blue Line customers to avoid having to transfer trains is to take advantage of free Park-Ride options at Red Line MetroLink Stations. Free parking is available at the Delmar Loop Station (362 spaces), Grand Station (60 spaces), and there are 100 free parking spaces for transit customers in the garage at the new Expo at Forest Park development, northwest of the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station. Enter the garage from Pershing Avenue.

About Single-Track Operations

Weekday Evenings | Weekends

Metro Transit is committed to improving the transit experience for our customers. A number of projects are planned for the MetroLink system that will make upgrades and add new amenities to the light rail system, including camera upgrades, new digital displays and PA system, platform improvements, and new safety/security infrastructure.

To accommodate these construction projects in 2023 and 2024, MetroLink will need to operate on a single track at different locations on some weekday evenings (6 p.m. to end of service) and weekends (all day).

Be advised that during single-track operations, some stations may have a platform closed to accommodate maintenance work. Passengers will need to board eastbound and westbound trains from the same platform at these stations.

  • DeBaliviere Signal House Platform
Flash flooding at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station in July 2022 damaged one signal house beyond repair. To prevent damage from future flooding, a replacement signal house will be installed on an elevated platform near street level. Construction on the platform is expected to start in Spring 2023, with the new signal house expected to be installed in early 2024.

  • Downtown Tunnel Repairs
Repairs to MetroLink tunnels and fire suppression equipment updates in downtown St. Louis are expected to begin in Spring 2023. Work will be done on weekday evenings and weekends under single track operations for 24 months.

  • East Riverfront MetroLink Station
Construction is underway on new staircases to access both the Eastbound and Westbound platforms at the East Riverfront Station. A MetroLink Station Shuttle is providing customer transportation from the 5th and Missouri MetroLink Station to the East Riverfront Station during the closure. Work is expected to be completed in early Spring 2023.

  • Emerson Park Transit Center
A new 16,000-square-foot Public Safety Center is under construction at the Emerson Park Transit Center in East St. Louis. The new building will have customer amenities, including restrooms, as well as offices for public safety personnel. Completion is scheduled for early 2024. This is a St. Clair County Transit District project.

  • MidAmerica St. Louis Airport Extension
MetroLink Red Line tracks will be extended from Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station to a new MetroLink station at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah, Illinois. Project is currently in the design phase with construction anticipated to start in late 2023. This is a St. Clair County Transit District project.

  • Rock Road Platform Rehab
Project removes and replaces the concrete platform deck at Rock Road MetroLink Station. Design work is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2024, with construction beginning in Summer/Fall 2024.

  • Secure Platform Plan Project
The Secure Platform Plan (SPP) project will transition the “Open Access” MetroLink system into a “Closed Access” system through the installation of fare gates that will allow access with paid fare to all 38 MetroLink platforms. Fencing will be installed and the Closed Circuit Television System (CCTV) will be expanded and modernized to make the light rail system more secure for customers.

  • Union Station Tunnel
Preparations are underway ahead of repairs to structural steel and shoring in the Union Station Tunnel. Rehabilitation work is expected to begin in early 2024.
