Live Music at North Hanley MetroLink Station Cancelled Tonight as Metro Monitors Winter Weather

A live holiday concert performed by the Bayless High School Xpression group scheduled for tonight (Dec. 5) at the North Hanley MetroLink Station has been cancelled due to the expected winter weather. The group has a second live holiday music performance scheduled for 5 p.m. next Tuesday, December 10 at the Central West End MetroLink Station, weather permitting.

In the meantime, Metro transit is carefully monitoring the winter storm moving through the St. Louis metropolitan region. Customers should plan ahead and allow extra time for their commutes, especially this evening and the Friday morning rush hour.

“Any time it snows, we expect there will be weather challenges. We urge our customers to plan ahead for delays,” said Ray Friem, Metro Chief Operating Officer Transit Services.

Friem added, “Please be patient with our operators and know that we will do everything we can to safely get you to where you need to go. MetroBus vehicles and Call‑A‑Ride vans can only travel as fast as the road conditions permit. Snow is not an issue for MetroLink trains but ice on the overhead MetroLink wires can cause major issues and delays for MetroLink service.”

Customers can expect delays for MetroBus and Call‑A‑Ride service if roads are covered with ice and snow, and both walking and driving could become treacherous. MetroLink Stations, transit centers, bus stops, and parking lots could become slick so passengers are asked to be extra careful. Crews have been spreading salt as needed and they are prepared for snow removal on Metro parking lots, walkways, transfer areas and MetroLink platforms.

Metro will update customers about major service delays through the media and through social media on Facebook at St. Louis Metro Transit, and on Twitter @STL Metro. The latest Rider Alerts will be posted on Metro’s website www.metrostlouis.org. Metro Transit Information representatives are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. by calling 314-231-2345 in Missouri and by calling 618-271-2345 in Illinois.

The Bi-State Development Agency (BSDA) is the operator of the Metro public transportation system for the St. Louis Region, which includes the 87 vehicle, 46-mile MetroLink light rail system; 374 MetroBus vehicle fleet that operates on 75 MetroBus routes; and Metro Call‑A‑Ride, a paratransit fleet of 121 vans.

BSDA also owns and operates St. Louis Downtown Airport and its surrounding industrial business park, and the Gateway Arch Riverboats, as well as operates the Gateway Arch Revenue Collections Center, the Gateway Arch Transportation System, and the Gateway Arch Parking Facility.
