Metro Transit to Sound the Horn to Honor Transit Operators and Transportation Workers

Today, Metro Transit will team up with transit agencies and transportation partners across the nation for the #SoundTheHorn campaign to honor transit operators and other essential workers. Metro Transit train, bus and van operators have the opportunity to participate by giving two one-second horn blasts at 2 p.m. as a special tribute to the heroic efforts of transportation workers in the St. Louis region and throughout the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Our transit operators and team members have been courageous throughout the COVID-19 crisis, and continue to provide critical transportation for health care workers, first responders, childcare, nursing home and grocery store employees, and other heroes performing essential work during this pandemic,” said Jessica Mefford-Miller, Executive Director of Metro Transit. “They are our heroes. They are here hard at work and serving the community when the people of our region need them the most.”

Transportation partners supporting the #SoundTheHorn campaign across the country include the American Public Transportation Association, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority in New York, Amtrak, NJ TRANSIT, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, SEPTA and the Maryland Transit Administration, MBTA, Memphis Area Transit Authority, Metra, PaceBus, TriMet, NICTD, AC Transit and Metrolink rail in California.
