An Annual Tradition: Opening Day

Return to Blog

The moment we have all been waiting for is almost here: Opening Day and the return of Cardinals baseball on Thursday, March 27!

For Cardinals fans, every home game is a celebration, but Opening Day takes it to another level. Downtown St. Louis will be packed with baseball fans, streets will be crowded, traffic will move slow, and expect parking to be limited and pricy.

But don’t sweat it—Metro Transit has you covered.

Start your game day tradition before the first pitch, by parking your vehicle at a free Metro Park-Ride lot, and joining other Cardinals fans on board MetroLink for a ride to the fun and festivities at Busch Stadium.

Opening Day Schedule

  • 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. | Opening Day Pep Rally at Ballpark Village
  • 12 p.m. | Busch Stadium gates open
  • 2:30 p.m. | Pre-game ceremonies begin
  • 3:15 p.m. | First pitch

Plan Your Opening Day Trip

Here’s everything you need to hit a home run with your Opening Day transit plans:

  1. Park your vehicle at a free Park-Ride lot located at MetroLink stations in Missouri and Illinois.
  2. Board your MetroLink train heading to downtown, grab a seat, and enjoy the hassle-free ride to Busch Stadium.
  3. Hop off the train at Stadium MetroLink Station, located directly across the street from Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village.
  4. Walk a few steps, find your seats, and root for the home team!

And the best part? After celebrating a Cardinals victory, you won’t have to sit in post-game traffic. Just hop back on MetroLink to head back to your vehicle and make it home.

MetroBus is another option, with more than a dozen MetroBus routes serving the Civic Center Transit Center located just a couple blocks west of Busch Stadium, including the  #4 Natural Bridge, #10 Gravois-Lindell#11 Chippewa#19 St. Louis Ave.#30 Arsenal#31 Chouteau#32 Dr. ML King#40 Broadway-Halls Ferry#41 Lee#73 Carondelet#74 Florissant#94 Page , and #97 Delmar.

Whether you’re an Opening Day veteran or someone eager to make new traditions, Metro Transit is here to make sure your game day kicks off on the right foot. This year, skip the stress, save some money, and be part of the community that knows the best way to get to Busch Stadium is on MetroLink or MetroBus. See you on the ride—and at the ballgame!
