Flashback Friday
Return to BlogFlashback Friday!
Today’s photo looks upon #51 streetcars on Oakland Rd. with Forest Park in the background. If the photographer turned around, he or she would be facing the old Arena (now Highlander Drive.) The year is 1945.
The pedestrian bridge spans the ‘Red Feather Expressway (later Highway 40.) The bridge was demolished long ago.
Have a great weekend!

Flashback
Gosh, maybe 1949. I think it’s that footbridge over highway 64 (40) near Highland Drive. NOT there anymore.
Close…1945.
These are 51 FOREST PARK streetcars loading at the entrance to the Arena. The first one is a 1600 while the second is a 1500 series car (notice the different side windows). I would guess mid 1940s (the 1600s were delivered in 1941). The bridge is a pedestrian bridge over the Red Feather Expressway (US 40 at the time) into Forest Park. Road widening took the bridge away long ago.
