Flashback Friday

Flashback Friday time!

Time for the answer: this is a photo of South County Mall (or South County Center) taken in 1965. You can see a bus in front of the entrance.

If you saw that unique white top and thought Northwest Plaza, West County Center or St. Clair Square, you were on the right track. South County Mall opened for business in October 1962 and one of its original anchors was Famous-Barr. This was the first of Famous-Barr’s rotunda stores, and three more would be built later in the area at Northwest Plaza, West County Center and St. Clair Square.

The only other Famous-Barr rotunda store that was built was in Eugene, Oregon.

Special thanks to mall-hall-of-fame.blogspot.com for all of the interesting information about our local malls.
