Flashback Friday

Return to Blog

This is a view of buses in front of the Downtowner hotel after its opening in 1964 on the northeast corner of Tucker (then 12th St.) and Washington. The hotel currently stands, remodeled as an apartment building.

Have a great weekend!

This is the hotel that was built at the NE corner of 12th and Washington where the Illinois Terminal envisioned its passenger station. Those are probably 91 DELMAR or 94 PAGE buses with the in Public Service in house installed air conditioners. Streetcar wires and T-bird in the photo date it to late 1950s

Two buses on the 104 Natural Bridge line, at a stop, in front of the Motor Inn Hotel.

Steven. Looking at the picture again, I agree with you. The buses do appear to be on Washington Ave. side of the hotel, which makes it more than likely that the buses were running on the 94 PAGE line, or possibly the 20 CHEROKEE or the 80 SOUTHAMPTON, which also stopped in front of the Motor Inn Hotel. The 91 DELMAR line, which also stopped in front of the hotel, was at one time running the shorter 35 foot long buses, compared to the 40 foot long buses which were running on the other mentioned routes. I’m not sure if the 91 DELMAR had started running the longer buses on that route at the time, when the picture was taken in 1964.
