Meet Octavia—The Newest Member of the MetroLink Team

Return to Blog

Meet Octavia! She just joined the Metro Team as a new MetroLink Operator and we are so excited to welcome her to the family.

Octavia’s journey began at one of our hiring events, after her mother suggested that she attend. In Octavia’s case, it was a “one-stop-shop” where our recruitment team took care of the application, interview, and background screening process all in one day. Octavia already possessed a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and chose to interview for a role on the MetroLink team. During the hiring event, she was introduced to some members of the team, including her future trainer, and they offered her a position on the spot.

Weeks later, Octavia was sitting in her first day of training. Nervous about her transition from her previous work in healthcare, she was comforted seeing the familiar face of her trainer. Although the training was intense with lots of studying, Octavia felt that it wasn’t hard as long as you put in the work. With three trainers who were eager to help, Octavia and the other trainees were able to learn everything she needed to know about operating a MetroLink train. Her little brother even helped her study before her test, and he’s now interested in joining the Metro team!

Her interest in Metro Transit came from her desire to interact with people and make their day a little better. Octavia loves interacting with the public.

“Even if it’s a quiet crowd, they will still get excited when they hear the excitement in the operator’s voice,” said Octavia. ”It’s all about making people have a better day, especially if they had the worst day possible.”

If passengers are having a rough day, Octavia’s personality and attitude helps to turn those frowns upside down. Her positivity and excitement are infectious, and she knows how to lift the spirits of those around her – even from the Operator’s seat.

Are you ready for a career switch? Our hiring events make it easy and convenient to apply and pursue a career with Metro Transit. Our training program sets new employees up for success, and Octavia is a perfect example of how hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude can make any transition into a new industry a pleasure.

Our next hiring event is happening on Saturday, December 9 at the North County Transit Center. Participants can expect the same streamlined approach that made Octavia’s experience so fantastic. Don’t hesitate to attend the event and take the first step towards an exciting career as a Metro Operator! Visit WorkAtMetroSTL.com for more details.
