Metro Transit: A Driving Force for Sustainability

Return to Blog

At Metro Transit, sustainability isn’t just part of our operations—it’s at the heart of our mission. From investing in eco-friendly transportation to fostering community collaboration, we’re committed to doing our part to create a cleaner, greener future for St. Louis.

This month, we’ll be looking at the programs, practices and partnerships that are helping Metro Transit deliver on that commitment. Here’s how we’re making a sustainable impact one stop at a time.

Community Partnerships Strengthening Regional Green Efforts

Sustainability isn’t something we can achieve alone—it requires a community collective. That’s why Metro Transit has forged partnerships with local organizations like Great Rivers Greenway, Trailnet, and St. Clair County Transit District, who promote environmentally-friendly travel and investment in transportation infrastructure that supports pedestrians and cyclists.

In Illinois, the St. Clair County Transit District’s MetroBikeLink consists of more than 39 miles of interconnecting trails and bike paths, with many sections running adjacent to MetroLink and directly connecting to six Metro Transit Centers. In Missouri, there are 135 miles of greenways connecting our region, like the Brickline Greenway serving the Cortex Innovation Community and Cortex MetroLink Station. When completed, this pathway will connect Cortex with the Grand MetroLink Station, Energizer Park and downtown St. Louis.

Green Events That Connect and Inspire

Metro Transit’s engagement team is also actively involved in green initiatives and events throughout the region. Connect with them at these upcoming events:

Through these opportunities, our team members are available to answer transit questions and share information about our sustainability programs and practices. We invite you to stop by, say hello, and join us in driving change.

Let’s Go Green Together!

Consider joining us at any of the above events–or lean into other ways to help our mission of sustainability.

Whether it’s using transit to visit a local farmers market or participating in National Bike to Work Day on May 16, there are a variety of events and activities that promote sustainability in our region.

It’s never too late to add Metro Transit to your sustainability plans. This month, we’ll be sharing several blogs for you to learn how. Stay tuned and follow us on social media for more transit and sustainability facts!
