Following a catastrophic flash flood in July 2022, when more than nine inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours, the MetroLink system was severly impacted, uspending most train service for three days and affecting operations for months. The Metro team worked around the clock immediately after the event and for months afterward to restore operations. Crews repaired about five miles of light rail track bed that was damaged by the flooding. Both elevators at the Forest Park-DeBaliviere Station sustained major damage, and both have since been repaired and returned to service. The infrastructure responsible for train and track communications was also damaged and needed replacement, and MetroLink operated modified service until all repairs were finalized and normal service was restored.
